Location: Orlando, FL - Specialty: Certified Nurse Midwife

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Hospital-Based Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)/ Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) functions in the specialty area of obstetric medicine in an expanded role to manage a caseload of patients with consultation, collaboration and general supervision from a physician in a hospital-based role.  This care is provided within the ARNP's specialty area and setting, and scope of practice. Utilizing the extensive knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology and physiology acquired, exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated medical processes and procedures.  The Hospital-Based ARNP is additionally involved in education, consultation and research at various levels.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluates pregnant and postpartum women in triage.
  • Performs the nursing duties related to midwifery including labor and delivery care, care after birth, and newborn care.
  • Educates women about different types of care available and encourages them to enhance their pregnancy by being involved.  
  • Orders, interprets and incorporates diagnostic tests, studies and lab values into the plan of care; evaluates effectiveness.
  • Formulates appropriate diagnosis based on history, physical examination and clinical findings.
  • Plans and provides care within the framework of policies, unit guidelines and privileges.
  • Serves as OB/GYN team member working closely with physicians and other staff to ensure healthy pregnancies and deliveries.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies according to privileges.
  • Emphasizes patient education, active participation, clear communication between the provider and the women, and an individualized health care experience.
  •  Advocates birth education, natural childbirth, and the participation of the entire family.
  • Teaches patients about all aspects of an infant’s reaction to its environment including but not limited to breast feeding and bonding.  
  • Communicates and documents pertinent case information in a timely and thorough manner
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of midwifery principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of methods ensuring safe working environment for patient, family, and staff including using appropriate personal protection equipment.
  • Knowledge of theories of family dynamics, mother-child attachment, parenting, and adult learning concepts.

Our practice is the clinical arm of the Florida Hospital Diabetes Institute (FHDI), one of the largest diabetes institutes in the country. General Summary:

The ARNP or PA-C under the supervision of the Physician(s) who acts as the collaborative practitioner, is responsible for:

  • Performs physical examinations and evaluation of adult patients with diabetes, endocrine disorders and metabolic diseases Primarily in the clinic setting. 
  • Responsibilities will also include 1- 2 days of Inpatient rounding at Florida Hospital Orlando.  Number of days will be dependent on the census.

  • Performs admissions, consultations and follow up care of pediatric patients in the Pediatric ICU setting, including intubation, ventilator management and other procedures as may be required ie. central lines, arterial lines

  • Educates patient and family on treatment plans, surgical procedures, pre and post-operative care, etc.

  • Performs physical examinations of patient’s evaluation and treatment of hematology and oncology patients primarily in the outpatient setting at our Altamonte Location. 
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, etc
  • Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed
  • Collaborates with physician supervisor and staff, as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff

General Summary:
  • Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-system failure, within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient’s physician.
  • Obtains patient health histories and complete physical examinations and documents findings in accordance with hospital requirements.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare learners.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and external cardiac massage; airway management including bag and mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation and extubation, repositioning endotracheal tubes; directing administration of life supporting drugs according to established protocols; and defibrillation according to Advanced Cardiac Life Support standards.
  • Under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital, inserts and manages arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, and other procedures commensurate with an ICU environment.
  • Interfaces patients with monitoring and instrumentation equipment, and directs and educates others in performing the same functions.
  • Formulates and implements a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s) and documents in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
  • Assesses patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
  • Provides family-centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of their family member.

      +Standards for initial training, proctoring, and annual competency requirements are found in the FH Standards for Procedure Training.
  • Completion of the FH Hemodynamic and Procedure Training program and attainment of a passing score 80% on the post-test.
  • Ability to provide in-hospital coverage on a rotating shift basis.  The shifts may include days, mid, evenings, and nights.
